Choosing a litter box
A litter box should be about one and a half times your cat's length, nose to base of tail. Open boxes are easiest for most cats to get used to; high sides cut down on kicked-out litter; and older cats need a low entry.
A common rule of thumb is one box per cat, plus one.
Scoops and mats
A sturdy scoop with slots sized for your litter makes daily scooping quick. A litter mat outside the box catches most of what gets tracked.
Deodorizers
Daily scooping does more for odor than anything else. Deodorizers help between full litter changes; many cats dislike strong scents, so unscented options are the safer choice.
