Match the bed to how your dog sleeps
Dogs who curl up like a raised rim to rest their head on, so bolster and donut beds suit them. Dogs who sprawl need a flat, roomy bed or mat. Big, heavy and older dogs often do best on a thick foam bed that doesn't flatten under them.
How to size a dog bed
Measure your dog lying stretched out, from nose to the base of the tail, and add 8 to 12 inches. Compare that to the bed's sleeping area, not its outside size, since bolsters take up room. Many makers also list a weight range.
Easy to clean
A removable, machine-washable cover makes life much easier. A waterproof liner protects the foam from accidents and wet dogs.
