Reward thoughtful choices and give the dog a legitimate task. Repeating drills forever is less useful than a short lesson followed by a clear finish and a chance to settle.

Start with a comfortable, measured harness and toys for interactive retrieving or skill games. A puzzle feeder can add a little thinking to mealtime, but it does not replace shared exercise.
